Hannah and Marcus…Say I do to Subaru…Michael Mowbray, Madison WI wedding photographer

Hannah and Marcus love their Subarus.  I mean, really LOVE their Subarus.  So much that a Subaru train conveyed them from their ceremony at Olbrich Gardens to their reception at the Holiday Inn at the American Center. It was pretty cool, but I felt a little out of place trailing in my Mini Cooper S.  That is, until I needed to get ahead of them in order to get the shot of the train coming into the hotel.  That red blur, guys?  That was me.:)

Despite the heat we were able to create some pretty cool images out in the sun in the gardens.  Check ‘em out!

Ericka and Garrett…a Badger connection…Michael Mowbray, Madison WI wedding photographer

One of the side benefits of photographing weddings is that not only do I get to work with great young couples, I also get to meet some great families, too.  When you meet their families and friends you can see why Ericka and Garrett turned out so well.  Ericka and Garrett are UW sweethearts that tied the knot on yet another hot day this summer — aren’t they all?  At least they’re used to this heat since they moved to Texas for Garrett’s job:  Tight end for the Houston Texans in the NFL.  Pretty cool gig.  Ericka is from the area and played basketball for the UW women’s team. So, yep, their kids will probably be pretty awesome, too.:)

Because of their Badger connections, we got to shoot around Camp Randall stadium for a bit and tested out the brand new sports turf.  I gotta tell you, it’s a little weird and spongy, and smells like Farm & Fleet (from all of the little bits of ground up tires that help make it softer).  We wrapped up the day with an elegant reception at Monona Terrace followed by a dance featuring top area band, Madison County.  It was a Buckyful day!

Jessica and Dan…The Pope has blue skies, the dance was Dynamite, and Irish Eyes are smilin’…Michael Mowbray, Madison WI Wedding Photographer

Jessica and Dan’s wedding had it all.  I knew it would be a uniquely fun wedding when Jessica’s groom gift to Dan featured pieces from the collapsed Metrodome roof.  These kids love each other so much (hey, I can say “kids” since I’ve officially been married 25 years now).  They both had tears in their eyes when Jess came down the aisle, and you could just feel the love all day long.  After the ceremony, we bopped across the street from Middleton Community Church and captured some of my favorite outdoor blue sky wedding shots ever at Pope Farm Park.  We also hit the Capitol building for some classic images before we finished at the Memorial Union, where their wedding reception was held in the Great Hall.  Two favorites moments from the reception:  when Jess and her dad broke out into a choreographed father/daughter dance to “Dynamite” (it was awesome and brought the house down); and, when it was announced that Dan’s dad was giving them a surprise honeymoon trip to Ireland.

Ian and Amanda…Making rainy day luck in Menasha…Michael Mowbray…Madison WI Wedding Photographer

They say it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day.  Could be, but I also believe in “making” your own luck.  Part of that is being prepared to photograph in any type of weather.  But huge props go to Ian and Amanda and their wedding party for being totally willing to head outside in the rain.  The result?  Some majorly cool images that you just can’t get on a sunny day.  :)

Kristen and Jason…Love and ice cream…Michael Mowbray, Madison WI Wedding Photographers

What’s the best way to cool off on a long, hot wedding day?  A stop at Michael’s Frozen Custard!  (Check out the special surprise that Michael’s had waiting for our happy couple.) What a great day we had with Jason and Kristen last Saturday.  They did everything top notch, from hair and make up at The Ultimate, to the ceremony at St Maria Goretti, to flowers by Personal Expressions, to special touches by Sugar Pear Designs, to the reception at the Overture Center.  And, of course, photography by Beautiful Portraits by Michael.:) I got to create lot’s of new, cool stuff…check it out!
