Olivia and Alex get married, Madison Wedding Photographer

I believe every wedding is special. But when it is one of your own getting married, it’s extra extra special. Our own Olivia Lothary (Olivia Linden now) got married and Krystal and I had the honor of photographing the wonderful event. Olivia was certainly radiant and beautiful, and Alex was dashing and handsome, as they tied the knot at the fabulous Madison Club, one of my favorite venues. Being a wedding photographer herself, Olivia knew all of the inside secrets to planning a perfect day…and it showed. Everything was gorgeous, and the schedule ran like clockwork. We started with getting ready photos at the Madison Club (check out our Little Mermaid photos and vintage Hollywood images of Olivia) then we limoed (is that a verb?) up to the Capitol to stage the first time Alex would see Olivia in her fab dress. I think we all got a little verklempt at the emotion and joy when they met. From there I had a couple of hours at my disposal to do whatever I wanted with them and the wedding party. We all thought “urban walkabout”, so we proceeded to weave our magic with the two of them. We had a blast! Then it was back to the Madison Club for the ceremony, dinner and dance. We capped the evening off with a little nighttime Capitol action. I’m at a loss for the proper words to describe how beautiful the day was; hopefully our images do a better job of telling the story. I’m proud to announce that for the sixth time in the last seven years I have been honored with the title “Best of Show – Wedding” by the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association. The winning print is titled “Beauty through the Ages” and it features bride Caryn Seed from her Overture Center wedding this past summer.

I was also honored by receiving a Judge’s Choice award. This is given by an individual judge to the print he or she most enjoyed during the competition. The winning print was “Brassy and Sassy” featuring Julia O’Donnell during a portrait session from last June.

Tips for Surviving the Bridal Show, Michael Mowbray, Madison Wedding Photographer

Here are some helpful tips to make the bridal show more enjoyable and effective for you.
1. Bring a water or buy something to drink. It’s really dry in there and after walking around and eating cake for a bit you will be parched. Plus water helps keep you energized…true story!
2. Look at the map for the vendors you are most interested in. Get to them early because dates go quickly and you would hate to lose yours to the person who came in a little ahead of you.
3. Keep your posse small. It gets crowded in there and a large posse will slow you down and clog up the works. Plus everybody will be giving you opinions, and it all becomes noise in your head very quickly.
4. We’ll offer consultations at the show, but we’re also scheduling consultations for the next couple of weeks. It’s a chaotic atmosphere, so if you’d prefer to stop in, say “Hi”, and then schedule a consultation for after the show, that is totally cool.
5. If you’re not interested in the fashion show, that is the best time to chat with your target vendors. It’s quieter and you can spend more time with them.
6. Take some notes on who and what you like…it’s all a blur after the show.
7. Have key questions jotted down. It will help you in the chaos.
8. Be ready to share your date over and over again. Many of us can book the date only once (in our case, twice), so we want to know that we’re even available.

2012 was a fantastic year for weddings, making it very difficult to pick the “best of” images for the year. But after much deliberation, here is my highlight video showing the “Best of 2012 Weddings”. While many of these were Madison WI weddings, quite a few were from outside the area, including several Fox Valley weddings. Enjoy!

John and Lindsey…Clubbing it Madison-style, Michael Mowbray, Madison Wedding Photographer

What a great way to close out the beautiful month of September. You remember September, right? Warm…blue skies…anyway. I had a great time with John and Lindsey as they gave me full rein to do my thing. My good friend Kathleen Caylor joined in to help out as we covered everything from getting ready at the Madison Club to a classic “walkabout” around downtown Madison. John and Lindsey were even game to follow me down a sketchy alley. As John said when he quoted Jack Black, “You’re not hardcore unless you live hardcore!” The result was one of my favorite wedding images from this year. Then we finished off the day with a awesome party mixed up by master DJ Geoffrey Sandler from Celebrations Entertainment. Check out the initial highlights!

Ashley & Nick…Starting off with a bang, Michael Mowbray, Madison Wedding Photographer

Nick and Ashley have so much in common…a love for hunting, the great outdoors, the Badgers…that it only made sense that they have their wedding at the picturesque Milford Hills Hunt Club. Gunfire filled the air when we showed up for the big day (Nick and the guys were shooting clays before the wedding). I had no idea how large the grounds were, but we soon found out as we went on a walkabout around the acreage to create some very cool outdoor portraits of Nick and Ashley. Brilliant blue skies abounded right up until the reception, then a quenching rain moved in after everyone sat down for dinner. What a great day it was!

Angela and Brad…A Nature-lover’s Canvas, Michael Mowbray, Madison Wedding Photographer

Angela and Brad are avid outdoor lovers, so it was only fitting that we scheduled a special day-before-the-wedding sunrise session at Lussier Heritage Center. The scenes were gorgeous as the sun illuminated the natural prairie. And Brad and Angela definitely looked in their element. The next followed with the ceremony at the beautiful (but warm) Grace Episcopal Church, followed by the reception at Overture Center. It’s some of my best work this year…check it out!
