About Michael

Since opening Beautiful Portraits by MIchael in 1996, Michael Mowbray has gone on to win many awards for his portraiture, including Wisconsin Best of Show-Wedding 2007 and 2008, the Kodak Gallery Award-2007 and 2008, and the prestigious Fuji Masterpiece Award for Outstanding Wedding Portraiture in both 2004 and 2006.  Michael was recently named one of the Top 10 photographers in Wisconsin and Best of Madison by the readers of Madison Magazine. He gives back to the photographic community by sharing his expertise in classes, seminars and educational videos. Also, as a founding member of the charity Families Forever, he gives back to the community by sharing his time and talent with families stricken by terminal illness.

As an artist, I'm inspired by the human spirit, especially by the way each person conveys his or her spirit through their eyes. I truly enjoy the challenge of capturing this spirit in the split second that photographic art affords me. It's a rush when the magic combination of lighting, emotion, spirit and form come together to create a beautiful portrait that will captivate the viewer and touch their heart.
